Remember that Friday, September 23 is conference release day.  Make sure you have arranged transportation off campus at 10:31am when 2nd elective ends.

Your goals should be typed by now and ready to review at your conference.  You will also be talking about your community involvement plans at the conference.

Good luck to all of you during conferences!

We will begin presentations on the Chinese dynasties by mid-week, so make sure that you have all research, presentation planning sheets, and presentations ready before Tuesday.  You will have some time in class to rehearse your presentations as well.  You also will rate the performance of your group members during the project.

The Buddhism WebQuest is due on Thursday, September 22.

I was very impressed with the leaf speeches, and I am very excited to be moving into The Outsiders. I also  want to thank you all for working so diligently on the iReady screener.

For this week, we will discuss chapter 1 and the setting of The Outsiders.  We will also begin some grammar work with sentences.  Lastly, you will write your "History as a Writer" in class this week to give me some insight into the type of writing you have done in the past and what the experience was like.

You will need to have read through chapter 3 in The Outsiders by Thursday.

Language Arts

Building community and a safe place to take risks will continue throughout the year, but we are ready to move on with our curriculum for now.  We will be doing a short public speaking unit over the next week that will result in all of us getting to know one another a little better while creating a really cool, decorative tree in my classroom.

You may want to bring in family pictures or other things from home to put on your leaf.  We will discuss this further as the unit is introduced.  Note: Pictures and items will be glued to your leaf, so you will want to make copies of any originals.

Regatta planning is underway.  Be sure to be bringing in items that 8th graders need for their boat as well as anything that we need for signs and costumes!  Also, make sure that you are working on your goals for the year!

Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!

Welcome to all the new 6th graders joining our community, and welcome back 7th/8th graders!  I'm excited for another year in CHOICE!

In Language Arts, we will be doing a lot of community building as we lay the foundation for a safe place to share ideas.  We will begin our Language Arts curriculum with a narrative speech.  I'm thrilled to be working with each of you throughout the year as we do lots of great projects and activities like digital storytelling, making commercials, Socratic seminars, reading The Outsiders, and much more!

In Co-op, I'm pumped to get to know each of you on a more personal level as we begin the year with initiatives, art projects, community building, and of course, THE REGATTA!  Please let me know any way that I can help you get off to a stellar start for the school year.
